Roy Horton Begins 2009 AX season in Hammond IN with Sucess
12/28/2008
I had my 1st race back in a
while. I went to an Arenacross in Hammond,
IN to get a warm up in prior to the beginning of the 2009 AX season. There was some solid competition; Travis Sewell,
Brad Ripple, Josh Lichtle, Cameron Lansing, Derrick Whitney, Kevin Markwardt, Justin
Kelly, Brain White, etc.
Unexpectedly the first
race back went great! I won my
heat race by a pretty descent margin and was looking forwards to the main
event.
I pulled a 3rd place start in
the main event, passed Sewell very early on the 1st lap, and then passed
Whitney on the 2nd lap for the lead! I had a small gap on Sewell the rest of
the 15 lap main event. I rode nearly
flawless though last lap. Two turns from the finish I missed judged
a lappers line as he jerked into me and knocked me through the hay bails. I
ended up getting passed by Sewell and Lichtle, I was pretty upset because
I rode a very smart race and felt great for just coming back! It would’ve
been a nice confidence booster since I hadn't rode very much, but it’s a
step in a positive direction.
I did much better than I felt I
would first race back, so I had fun and made some money, came out safe and
no complaints thanks for the support.
