TeamVRM.com's Roy Horton Looks to Use Vegas Momentum at Charlotte, NC Toyota AMA Arenacross
1/5/2007
Shawn Clark
Waukesha, WI
(Jan. 4th, 2007) - Round three of the 2006/2007 Toyota AMA
Arenacross series proved to have the best track for racing of the series up to
this point per Roy Horton. “Coming off a
disappointing round 2 in Albany, NY we arrived in Reno, NV and to our surprise
Reno is a very big stadium compared to most Arenacross venues. This allowed the track to be much bigger and
change the style of racing compared to earlier in the series. The Live Nation track crew did and amazing
job with the track! After seeing the
track for the first time it looked like a motocross dream. Freshly tracked and
everything being so perfect along with a good set of whoops for the first time
of the year I couldn't wait to ride the track. After riding practice I wasn't
mistaken that it was the best Supercross or Arenacross track that I've ever
rode. I like to thank the crew again for a great job all weekend. I'd also like
to thank my mechanic Brent for due to Reno being so high into the
mountains it took hours of jetting bikes on Thursday and I feel I had
some of the best running bikes of anyone the whole weekend!"
Friday Qualifiers:
“Friday the races were
a big improvement from the 1st two rounds for the TEAMVRM.com / Nielsen / Honda Oils machine.
I was riding to my full potential and it showed winning both my
daytime heats very easily from start to finish. The night program starting
the same way by winning the 1st Lites heat race of the weekend pulling the
fastest heat.”
“The 250 wasn't as
easy due to the talent filled class and poor holeshots, but I was
able to qualify out of the LCQ, which set the stage for a great night.”
Friday Lites:
I was looking for my
first victory of the year in the Lites class knowing I had been the fastest all
day! I pulled the holeshot in the main event, but just as I entered the 1st
turn in the lead, a tuff block had been knocked onto the track right into my
line from the other riders battling for position in the first turn. After
getting hung up on the tuff block I came around the 1st lap in 12th place
with a long race ahead of me, I put my head down and was able to put
in a hard charge back up to 4th place. I felt good with my race and was
prepared to due battle in the Arenacross class.
Friday Arenacross:
“The gate dropped and
I actually gated well I was racing around in 6th place at the half way point
looking to move forward. While
attempting to make a pass I made a slight mistake over a jump which put me
to the ground and knocking the wind out myself and forcing me to settle for a
13th place finish. “
Saturday Lites:
“Saturday was much of
the same as Friday having good races during the day time qualifying and again
qualify for both main events. Lites main event started I had a 4th
place start believing I had a chance at my 1st victory while running 3rd after
a few laps. Unfortunately for me I
left the door open not knowing that the eventual winner Davenport was that
close in tow. After an aggressive pass
that ripped my radiator and radiator brace half off I was knocked back to 8th
place. Eventually I came on to finish
up 5th overall for the night.”
Saturday Arenacross:
“Arenacross main event
was the same as Friday having a case of the crashes while in 9th
place. This time it was Matt Barnes that
had the mistake that collected my bike for a few seconds dropping me a few
positions. With such a talented field
of riders I was only able to come from behind and finished 12th
place on the night.”
“All though it was an
up and down weekend for me as far as results go, the track was great and I
felt riding was solid as well. With new found confidence from having good
speed and good starts all weekend I'm looking forwards to the rest of
the series I would like to thank my sponsors as they are working hard to help
me get to were we want to be - TeamVRM.com, Nielsen Enterprises, Honda
Oils, Yoshimura, MB 1 suspension, UFO, E Fitness Academy, Pro Wheel,
and My Mom and Dad for all the support"
