TeamVRM.com's Roy Horton Gets to Know the Dirt Personally at the Albany, NY Toyota AMA Arenacross
11/17/2006
Shawn Clark
Waukesha, WI
(Nov. 16th, 2006) - Round two of the 2006/2007 Toyota AMA
Arenacross series proved to be more difficult than the first for Roy
Horton. Showing solid speed all day
didn’t result in the desired finishes as laying on the dirt in Albany will slow
any rider down.
Once again Horton, riding his TEAMVRM.com / Nielsen / Honda Oils began his Friday well by winning his day
qualifiers (due to so many competing riders) to be set for the night program in
the each class.
Friday Lites:
Roy began this moto by
finding himself on the ground. Marred in the back of the pack. He quickly worked up to sixth place and saw
the leaders were checked out. Roy
stated, “The Albany track was the softest dirt I’ve ever rode on for
Arenacross. It seemed like here were
ruts deeper than outdoors. In the
Rhythm section you just pick a line in the beginning and rode it out, as with
the ruts you couldn’t change lines in the jumps. The ruts were so bad only a few guys could even jump the catapult
during the main event I didn’t the
whole race and ended up seventh. I
wasn’t a big fan of the track but everyone had to ride it so it’s still fair
racing.
Friday Arenacross:
Roy commented, “Poor
starts and crashes. I wasn’t happy
about this performance. “
Saturday Lites:
Roy was back in the main
event and he continued to know the track personally. Roy noted, “Let’s start by saying CCE worked extremely hard to
make the track more race able by drying it out all Friday night. It was much better but my over anxiousness
put me down again. 11th
place in the main. Obviously I feel I
can do better but need to prove it to everyone.”
Saturday Arenacross:
Roy did not qualify for
the night program. In the LCQ he was
running third with a right hand 180-turn approaching and Horton hugged the
inside right next to the tuf block.
Unfortunately another rider couldn’t stop and torched Roy. What an opportunity for Chad Johnson as Chad
was running 5th at the time with only 2 laps to pass the two crashed
riders. The Arenacross class is deep in
talent.
Now Roy has the depressing cross
country drive along with his other competitors to due battle in Sin City. Let’s just say if Roy does well there we
will all hear about it. Track builders
have commented that the dirt in Vegas is some of the best to work with. Rumor also is that Tyler Evans (full time
Supercross rider) will be making the Arenacross class even more competitive.
Next Event(s): Roy will be competing in both classes at Las
Vegas, NV
