The Ups and Downs of Toyota AMA Arenacross for TeamVRM.com's Roy Horton at Des Moines, IA
11/10/2006
Shawn Clark
Waukesha, WI (Nov. 10th, 2006) - Roy Horton of Frankfurt, IL began the
2006/2007 Toyota AMA Arenacross series showing raw speed but ended up
disappointed with his week one results in Des Moines, IA. Roy began the weekend well by landing spots
in both main events on Friday night but Saturday night would be one he would
like to forget.
Horton,
riding his TEAMVRM.com / Nielsen / Honda Oils began his
Friday well by winning his day qualifiers (due to some many competing riders)
to be set for the night program in each class.
Friday Lites:
Roy began this moto by finding himself on the ground. Horton remounted and push up to fourth
place with a little more than a third of the race to go. An unexpected bike malfunction over the
catapult jump caused Roy to eat the load.
Roy was beaten up but hobbled back to the pits for his Arenacross class
ride.
Friday Arenacross:
Roy commented, “I made it to the main event but after that get off
in the Lites class due to my bike locking up I was lucky to be racing this
class. I put in the ride but it was
survival for me.”
Saturday Lites:
Roy didn’t race as his engine on his Lites bike was being
repaired.
Saturday Arenacross:
Roy did not qualify for the night program. To be automatically qualified for the night
program you need to be in the top twelve in points and Roy finished 13th
on Friday. His day qualifier he came
in second to Robbie Reynard (Saturday night’s Arenacross champion) and only one
was taken to the main event. Roy said,
“second to Reynard and not in the night show that is very disappointing. I have to start focusing on Albany and not
hang my head.”
Roy
summed up the weekend as “All in all, it was an up and down weekend. I know I’m fast and can qualify as I did
Friday but the racing Gods weren’t on my side on Saturday. I was able to show off my new ride this year
and get some exposure for my sponsors.
Next weekend we’ll improve on this!”
